Yöpuu Yhtiö Oy is a family-owned company from Jyväskylä, operating hotel and restaurant services in the heart of the city. We operate in three locations: the iconic Yöpuu-Pöllöwaari, Verso in the best spot on the city’s pedestrian street, and the charming Bistro Kirkkopuisto. Sustainability is one of our core values, and we actively work to become an even more responsible operator. We think long-term and make decisions that matter – for people, the environment, and the future.
Sustainability is not just about environmental actions; we also pay attention to social and governance factors Sustainability is a whole that we, employees and customers alike, are creating together. Hotel Verso is proudly part of Green Key, the international sustainability program for the hospitality industry. Hotel Verso received its certification in the summer of 2024. Hotel Yöpuu achieved its certification in December 2024. With the help of Green Key, we continuously develop our operations to become even more sustainable.
WE USE CLEAN, GREEN ELECTRICITY
At Yöpuu Yhtiö, we use only green, sustainably produced electricity in all our locations. Choosing green electricity plays a significant role in reducing our carbon footprint. To improve our energy efficiency and reduce consumption, we use LED or energy-saving bulbs for lighting across our properties
At Verso and Yöpuu-Pöllöwaari, we monitor energy and water consumption as well as waste volumes on a monthly basis. The collected data helps us identify possible spikes in our consumption and waste levels, allowing us to address them more effectively. We aim to significantly reduce, for example, the amount of biowaste by primarily serving plated dishes instead of buffet-style meals in our restaurants. To reduce water and energy consumption, we do not change the bed linen or towels in our guest rooms during daily cleaning unless requested.
WE CONSUME SUSTAINABLY
Our procurement policy strongly emphasizes high-quality and locally sourced products and ingredients. We primarily source domestic products and ingredients across all our departments and strive to work with local producers and service providers whenever possible. The hotel cosmetics we use come from the Finnish brand Lumene. The products are vegan, and the packaging is 100% recyclable. Towels and linens are washed by our partner, Comforta’s laundry in Jyväskylä, using Nordic Swan Ecolabel-certified detergents. In our establishments, we also use detergents that carry the Nordic Swan Ecolabel and are approved by the Allergy, Skin and Asthma Federation. All our paper products are also eco-labeled.
